Governor Christie signed executive order 105 canceling Halloween. Alternative activities scheduled at CDW/TBD Schools starting at 5:30pm.
Old Tappan Police Chief Thomas Shine with post Hurricane Sandy storm related information. The State of Emergency declared by NJ Governor Christie remains in effect indefinitely. President Obama has declared NJ a major disaster area. Old Tappan will continue to take information and direction from NJOEM and Bergen Co. OEM. With respect to Halloween, Governor Christie today signed Executive Order 105 canceling Halloween for October 31, 2012. Old Tappan Mayor Victor M. Polce strongly recommends Halloween outdoor trick or treat activities be canceled for October 31, 2012, due to unsafe conditions created by Hurricane Sandy. Alternative indoor Halloween activities are suggested. Alternative Halloween events have been scheduled at our local schools and will begin at 5:30pm. Among other activities, there will be a DJ and pizza at both schools. 5th - 8th grade students are urged to attend the events planned at the CDW school and K - 4th grade students are urged to attend events planned at the TBD school. Within specific areas of town, there is still uncertainty with regard to the time line on restoration of power. Old Tappan is served by PSEG from Washington Ave. west and O&R east of Washington Ave. Any wires downed by trees must be cut/cleared by the utilitiy companies, not the OTDPW, private contractors or residents. These lines may still be live and residents must stay clear of them. Power outage customer contact numbers are PSEG 800-436-7734 and O&R 877-434-4100. Please do not estimate that all power outages have been identified through the borough emergency services. Use the established numbers and report your outage to customer service. All Old Tappan Emergency Services remain at the ready to assist anyone in need. Residents are asked to be patient as restoration and recovery efforts progress. The Old Tappan DPW requests residents separate leaves and storm related tree limb debris when placing them near borough streets for scheduled pick up. Borough streets must remain open. You may review updated information on the Old Tappan Borough website, as it becomes available. Thank you for your anticipated cooperation and be safe.
