Jefferson County – This morning shortly after 10 a.m. Troopers from the Versailles Post and Deputies from Jefferson County responded to a report of a possible domestic dispute at a home at 1935 Dawson Smith Road outside of Madison.
As officers arrived they saw a male run out of the back of the home with a shotgun. As the subject ran into the backyard out of their sight, officers heard a single shotgun blast. Officers rushed to the backyard and found an unresponsive male with an apparent self inflicted gunshot wound to his head.
Medical help was summoned, but the male succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Dead is Marc A. Burke, age 40, of Lexington Indiana. He has been described as a former boyfriend of the resident at 1935 Dawson Smith Road.
Officers were still at the residence this afternoon, and the investigation is ongoing. Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department, Jefferson County EMS and the Jefferson County Coroner.
