Advisory

The Bedford Police Department would like to remind all residents to plan early for the effects of Hurricane Sandy.

As Hurricane Sandy continues to approach the U.S. mainland, the Bedford Police Department would like to remind all residents to have a family emergency plan. Once a disaster has struck is the wrong time to learn that you, your family, or friends are not prepared. Preparing personal and family disaster kits in advance helps make sure that you have what you need, and don’t get caught off guard. One component of a family emergency plan is to have adequate supplies on hand in the event that you are stranded in your home or are forced to evacuate. Family disaster preparedness should include at least the following:

Radio - Battery operated and NOAA weather radio
Telephones - Fully charged cell phone with extra battery and a traditional (not cordless) telephone set
Cash (with some small bills) and Credit Cards - Banks and ATMs may not be available for extended periods
Keys
Toys, Books and Games
Important documents - in a waterproof container or watertight resealable plastic bag
