Wet Roads and Speed Contribute to Crash

Tippecanoe County-Today at approximately 9:00 a.m. on State Road 43 near County Road 650 north in Tippecanoe County, a trooper rolls up on a two vehicle personal injury crash.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Mike Krueger has revealed that a gray 2005 Toyota Camry driven by James R. Elliott, 22 years old from Monticello, IN was southbound on SR 43 near CR 650 south. A white 2004 Chevrolet Impala driven by Timothy A. Wesselman, 57 years old from Logansport, IN was northbound on SR 43 in the left hand turning lane preparing to turn left onto CR 650 north. Elliott lost control of his vehicle when it started to hydroplane on the rainy wet surface. The Camry got sideways and struck Wesselman’s car in the driver’s door with the back right bumper.

Elliott was not injured in the crash. Wesselman complained of pain and was transported to St. Elizabeth East Hospital in Lafayette, IN with non-life threatening injuries. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts. Elliott was cited for speed too fast for weather conditions. Both vehicles were towed from the scene. The investigation is continuing.

Assisting at the scene was Master Trooper Mike Probasco and Sergeant Kim Riley of the Indiana State Police and the Tippecanoe County EMS.
