Advisory

Newton Police apprehend 4 teenage suspects in connection with a handgun.

Shortly before 7:00 p.m. tonight, police responded to Union Street in Newton Centre for a report of a person in possession of a handgun.

According to a witness who was on an outbound Green Line train, their attention was drawn to a male who dropped a handgun on the floor.

When the train reached the Newton Centre T stop, this male along with another male exited the train. The witness called police to report what they observed and police responded to the area.

When police arrived to investigate, they observed four males flee the area. An officer pursued one of the males back down toward the T stop and observed him reach into his waistband and discard an object. The officer was able to recover this object, which turned out to be a small automatic loaded handgun.

After a foot pursuit, officers were able to apprehend and arrest this suspect on Chesley Road. He has been identified as a 16 year old juvenile from Newton. After an extensive search by officers on duty and working details, they were able to locate and arrest the three other individuals, who are also Newton residents. Two of them are 18 years of age and the third is 15.

All four are facing numerous firearm and ammunition charges along with conspiracy.

The Newton Police Department is very proud of the excellent work of its officers in apprehending all four individuals.
