Sun Prairie Police Dept. Media Release-Vehicle Lockout Service

From: Lieutenant Kevin Konopacki
Date: 09-24-12
Subject: Vehicle Lockout Service

Effective on October 1 at 6:00am, the Sun Prairie Police Department will be ending the public service of vehicle lockouts. The department will continue to respond to incidents involving incapacitated or vulnerable persons or pets that are locked inside a vehicle.

On average, the department completes over 600 vehicle lockouts a year, equating to 215 hours of officer and records staff time a year. The ending of this service will allow for officers to re-direct the saved time to problem solving policing, specifically focusing on the people and locations taking a disproportionate amount of police resources to the benefit of the quality of life in Sun Prairie.

Private companies throughout Dane County do provide lockout services.

Please contact Lieutenant Kevin Konopacki with questions or comments at 608-825-1176.
