From: Sgt. Jason Lefeber
Date: September 18th, 2012
Subject: Felony OWI Arrest
At approximately 10:30 pm on Monday, September 17th, a Sun Prairie Officer observed a vehicle driving on W. Main St. near Rickel Road in the City of Sun Prairie which matched the description of a traffic complaint. The traffic complaint had been called in a few minutes earlier by a citizen. The officer established probable cause to stop the vehicle and contact was made with the driver who was identified as William Cox. Cox, age 42 of Madison, was subsequently arrested for OWI-4th Offense. Because this offense occurred within 5 years of a third OWI conviction, the resulting charge is a felony. He was booked into the Dane County Jail on the felony OWI charge as well as being cited for Operating after Revocation, Non-Registration of an Automobile, & Possessing Unlawfully Obtained License Plates.
Pursuant to the directive of the Wisconsin Supreme Court, as found in Supreme Court Rule 20:3.6, Trial Publicity, you are advised that a charge is merely an accusation and that a defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
