Stabbing Incident UPDATE – SMPD Arrests Suspect - Victim Stable

SMPD Detectives continued working on this investigation around the clock following the original incident pursuing witness information and investigative leads. Detectives identified the suspect as Dantes Mkrtchjan, a 21 year-old transient, and disseminated investigative information about Mkrtchjan to surrounding law enforcement agencies. A great spot by an SMPD Patrol Sergeant on the afternoon of Friday, September 14th enabled us to take this suspect into custody within 24 hours of the incident. Mkrtchjan was arrested in the area of Hillsdale Boulevard and El Camino Real and ultimately booked into San Mateo County Jail for Assault with a Deadly Weapon. The victim is expected to survive his injury.

MEDIA FOLLOW-UP:
Since this update involves an arrestee, any media follow-up should be directed to the San Mateo County District Attorney's office. SMPD does not have a current booking photo of the suspect. Any media inquiries about booking photos for Mkrtchjan should be directed to the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office.
