This morning (Sept 9, 2012) around 3:30 am, a fatal solo vehicle traffic collision occurred in Studio City taking the lives of three occupants.

The preliminary findings indicate that a silver BMW with 3 occupants were travelling eastbound on Ventura Boulevard approaching Tujunga Avenue at a high rate of speed.

The vehicle lost control and struck several trees shearing them off at their base.

The vehicle continued travelling eastbound up onto the southern sidewalk of Ventura and Tujunga where the vehicle collided with a gas line attached to a pizzeria causing a fire.

The vehicle and the building were engulfed in flames and the occupants were unable to escape. Tragically all three occupants perished in the crash.

The cause of this tragic collision has not yet been determined. A full investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of this fatal collision. The identity of the victims has yet to be determined.

Members of the Mayor's Crisis Response Team responded to the scene to provide support to those who have been affected by this tragedy. The Los Angeles Police Department is deeply saddened by this tragedy and send out our deepest sympathies to the families and friends on this very sad day.
