Compton patrol deputies nab church thief who stole $3800.00 in offerings.
On September 4, 2012 at approximately 3:30am, a clergy member from a local church was awakened by footsteps on the roof outside his on-site bedroom and subsequently called 9-1-1.
As deputies arrived, the clergy member guided the deputies to his bedroom. Much to the surprise of the deputies the suspect was observed crawling in to the clergy member’s bedroom window. The suspect locked the door while the deputies attempted to make entry into the bedroom. While doing so the deputies could hear the suspect inside the bedroom.
Shortly thereafter, the deputies gained entry into the bedroom and now observed the suspect jump off the church roof. He was subsequently detained pending the outcome of their burglary investigation.
Inside the bedroom the handling deputies found the suspect’s backpack and $3838.25 in stolen donation envelopes. The recovered monies were released back to the church. The suspect was arrested and booked at Century Regional Detention Facility for felony burglary charges. Compton Station Detectives are handling the investigation.
