Compton Sheriff’s and Compton School Police train for active shooter incidents.
Due to recent newsworthy nationwide attacks around the nation, Compton Sheriff’s personnel and Compton School police collaborated to update handling of active shooter and terrorist incidents. On July 31, 2012 a training event was conducted focusing on updating tactical techniques in handling critical incidents.
During the days training which included classroom and practical application the participants learned updated entry and movement techniques used in handling these incidents. As part of the training scenario, deputies and school officers were required to respond to threats at a local school. To further enhance the training, role players were used from Compton and Lomita Sheriff’s Station’s Explorer Posts as well as the school psychology team from Compton Unified School District.
Simulation paintball weapons were used to provide more realism to the training and keep the level of awareness high. Sergeant Cruz from Compton Sheriff’s Station said the training will allow law enforcement personnel better serve the citizens in the City of Compton.
