On Monday, August 27th, at about 2:00 pm, San Mateo Police and Fire Personnel responded to the Hilton Garden Inn, located at 2000 Bridgepointe Circle on a reported fatality in a hotel room and a possible chemical exposure. Responding personnel discovered a single fatality inside the hotel room – a female  – and also noted evidence of an unidentified exposure incident. In the interest of safety, the scene was secured, adjacent hotel rooms were evacuated, and a Hazardous materials call-out was initiated.

A unified incident command was formed consisting of the San Mateo County Hazardous Materials Response Team, the San Mateo Police Department, the San Mateo and Foster City Fire Departments, Belmont Fire Department, San Mateo County Fire, the San Mateo County Office of Emergency Services. and the San Mateo County Coroner’s Office.

At this time there is no public danger of exposure. The incident itself, including the exact chain of events leading to the exposure and the fatality, remains under investigation. Portions of the hotel will be closed and dozens of safety personnel may be on scene for the next 2-3 hours. The exact cause of death and victim identification will be determined by the San Mateo County Coroner’s Office.
