NATIONAL NIGHT OUT 2012 IS TOMORROW - TUESDAY, AUGUST 7th!
Over 50 Block Parties City-Wide – Plus a Big National Night Out Event at the King Center!

Like many cities on the Peninsula, on Tuesday, August 7th , 2012 San Mateo will be participating in National Night Out. Always the first Tuesday in August, this national campaign is designed to raise crime prevention awareness, strengthen neighborhood unity and spirit, and develop partnerships between the City and the community.

Similar to the format followed the last few years, the City of San Mateo is supporting the original spirit of National Night Out by inviting residents to turn on their porch lights and getting out to meet their neighbors in informal block gatherings and activities. When residents on a block know each other, the neighborhood and the community is safer and stronger.

Join our “Big Block Party” at the King Center:
In addition to our individual block parties, there will be a large scale National Night Out Event at the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center (“The King Center”) at 725 Monte Diablo Ave. in San Mateo from 5 to 8pm!
– This event will be well attended, and is produced in cooperation by Target, The Peninsula Conflict Resolution Center, San Mateo County and the North Central Coalition and Community Council Addressing Alcohol and Other Drugs, as well as the City of San Mateo Organization, including Police, Fire, and Parks & Rec.

“We are really excited to be bringing National Night Out to the block level. This is a great opportunity for neighbors to get to know each other and if they aren’t already part of Neighborhood Watch, this will be a perfect time to get it started!”
Chief of Police Susan E. Manheimer.

National Night Out 2012 in San Mateo is another record breaker, with over 50 blocks participating throughout the City! Some blocks are having ice cream socials, some are having barbecues, and others are just having residents turn on their porch light between 6:30 and 9:00 PM. It is up to each block that participates to decide how they want to gather together with their neighbors.

This has also traditionally been an opportunity for Neighborhood Watch groups to get together, and for those who do not have one in their area to start new Neighborhood Watch groups.
