Escondido Police Seeking Suspect in Shooting

On July 31, 2012, at approximately 5:50 P.M., the Escondido Police Department Communications Center received numerous emergency calls of a shooting that had just occurred in the 1100 Block of East Mission Avenue. The Communications Center also received calls of a vehicle that struck a telephone pole in the same area. Officers responded and arrived on scene to find a male subject with a gunshot wound to his head. It appears that the shooting and collision were the same incident.

Escondido Fire Department paramedics were called to the scene and transported the injured subject to a local area hospital where he is currently being treated for his injuries. His condition is not known at this time. No identifying information is being released as he is a victim of violence.

Witnesses indicate that a male suspect shot at the van while it was eastbound on Mission Avenue. After the suspect fired his weapon he fled the area. Police searched for the suspect, but were unable to locate him. The suspect is described as a dark skinned Hispanic male, approximately 17-18 years old with short, spiked black hair and bloodshot eyes. He was last seen wearing a plain white t-shirt, baggy blue pants and white shoes.

It is believed there was a second person in the vehicle that was shot at. While officers were administering medical aid, that person left the scene without speaking with officers.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is requested to contact the Escondido Police Department Investigations Bureau at (760) 839-4717.
