Region II host Youth Symposium at South Los Angeles Youth Activities League Center

On Saturday July 21, 2012, various Field Operations Region II Stations (South Los Angeles, Carson, Lomita, Century, Marina Del Rey, Compton and the Parks Bureau) collaborated to host a youth symposium titled “Pay It Forward”. The event held at the South Los Angeles Station Youth Activities League Center was the culmination of three months of planning and was the first of what the various Community Relations staff’s want to periodically host.

Over 200 youth showed up to hear highly sought-after motivational speakers, Sheriff’s Reserve Deputy Lou Ferrigno (Incredible Hulk, Celebrity Apprentice), author and director Antwone Fisher, and Los Angeles County Sergeant, Steve Landers, (subject matter expert on racial profiling) speak on challenging youth issues such as, leadership, life skills and racial profiling.

The event was a huge success, served as a starting point for similar events and to open up the lines of communication between law enforcement and high school aged youth.
