Man Arrested After Gun Threats in Movie Theatre

A movie patron approached theatre security Sunday and said he was fearful of a moviegoer inside a showing of “The Dark Knight,” because he was shouting about a gun and Colorado.

While Norwalk Sheriff’s Station deputies were called, an AMC Norwalk 20 Theatre security officer went inside the movie theatre and saw that the 52-year suspect had a backpack and was on his knees in the second row of seats.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies arrived and detained the suspect.

Several witnesses confirmed that the suspect had created a disturbance in the theatre at 5:15PM, at first by shouting that the movie had not yet started. Suspect Clark Tabor then allegedly held his cell phone in the air and yelled “Does anyone have a gun?” and “I should go off like in Colorado.”

The witnesses said that they were afraid the suspect was going to remove a gun from his backpack and shoot them.

No weapons were found during the search of the suspect, the movie theatre, and surrounding area. There were no guns found during a search of the suspect’s residence.

Suspect Tabor was arrested for Making Criminal Threats, a felony (422(a) of the California Penal Code). He is being held in the Men’s Central Jail of the Los Angeles County jail system on $50,000.00 bail plus unrelated warrants. His next scheduled court date is Tuesday, July 24, 2012, at Bellflower Court.

“A witness saw and heard strange activity and reported it immediately, said Captain Pat Maxwell, Norwalk Sheriff’s Station. “This is exactly the kind of help law enforcement needs to help protect the public. 'If You See Something, Say Something.’ The greatest deterrent to crime is often a phone call to law enforcement by a person who sees something that just doesn't look right.”
