Heat advisory remains in effect until 8 PM EDT this evening...

* location... parts of southern New Jersey... as well as central
and southern Delaware and northeastern Maryland.

* Heat index values... generally up to 109 this afternoon.

* Impacts... the cumulative affects of the heat are danger to
everyone. The elderly... the infirm and the very Young are
most susceptible to heat related health problems.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A heat advisory means that the combination of hot temperatures
and high humidity will create a dangerous situation. Be sure to
drink plenty of fluids... stay in an air conditioned location...
stay out of the sun and check on elderly relatives and neighbors.
Do not leave a person or a pet in a parked vehicle.

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When
possible... reschedule strenuous activity to the early morning or
late evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and
heat stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing.

To reduce your risk when performing outdoor work... the
occupational safety and health administration recommends
scheduling frequent rest breaks in a shaded or air conditioned
location. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool
shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency - call 9 1 1.

Please make sure that your pets have access to plenty of cool
water and a shaded well ventilated place to rest. The most humane
thing to do is to bring them into an air conditioned location.
