DUI checkpoint yields drug bust.
A motor detail deputy assigned to work a D.U.I checkpoint was in the area of the 1200 block of Long Beach Boulevard when he observed a silver BMW commit several traffic violations. Upon conducting a traffic stop and conversing with the driver the deputy smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. The driver told the deputy he, and the vehicle passengers had been smoking marijuana in the car. The deputy also noticed large amounts of money inside of the vehicle. The occupants were detained and a subsequent search of the vehicle revealed approximately half a pound of marijuana, over $5000.00 in cash and other drug related paraphernalia. The driver also admitted that he was a member of a local street gang.
Upon Completion of the investigation the driver, and two occupants of the vehicle where arrested for unlawful transportation of Marijuana, unlawful possession of Marijuana more than 1oz, and Conspiracy to sell narcotics. The suspects were transported to the local jail for booking. Detectives from Narcotics Bureau are handling the investigation.
