Crime Prevention Unit

This week there were two residential burglaries in Saugus. One was from the 21800 block of Jeffers Ln. Person(s) unknown entered through the unlocked front door, while no one was home, and stole jewelry. The burglary occurred between 12:45 pm and 1:30 pm. The second burglary occurred from the 27900 block of Pinebank Dr. A male in a dark Ford Fiesta was seen leaving the vacant house at approximately 5:30 am. Deputies checked the house and determined that the stove had been stolen. Neither the suspect nor the vehicle were located.

There was a noteworthy arrest on July 1st. Deputies responded to a vehicle burglary, in progress, near the corner of Bud Ct/Alaminos Dr. The witness had seen a male entering numerous vehicles on the street. Once Deputies responded they detained the male and determined that he was responsible for at least two vehicle burglaries that night. This as a great example of how the community is assisting with policing their neighborhood. Without the help of the alert resident this could have been a crime that went unsolved.

Please have a safe Fourth of July celebration. Remember that the use of fireworks can turn a fun celebration into a horrible memory when adults or children are hurt from illegal fireworks. For those living within the city it is illegal to possess fireworks (including safe and sane) per 9.60.030 SCMC. For the unincorporated areas it is a misdemeanor to possess fireworks per 3301.1.3 LACFC. It is also a felony for persons to possess any explosive device per 12305 H&S. There are alternatives to hosting your own illegal fireworks show by attending the local, permitted, fireworks show hosted by the City of Santa Clarita.
