Recently, our City experienced several home invasions. The perpetrators have gained entry through rear, unlocked doors at night. The perpetrators seem to be targeting homes where purses and valuables are visible and easily reached in the rear of the home near the doors. The homeowners have been home and asleep during these crimes. It is not known if the perpetrators are armed. Please remember to lock all doors and windows at night and set your alarm if you have one. Also, do not leave valuables in sight near doors and windows. We would also recommend motion sensor activated lights. Criminals prefer unlighted areas and these types of outdoor lights are a deterrent.
There have also been numerous garage break-ins and larcenies from autos recently. Our City has only had a few, but neighboring cities have been getting hit rather hard. These are usually crimes of opportunity. Make sure to lock garages and vehicles and do not leave valuables in them.
