Yard sale regulations.

The Fontana City Council has recently revised the City Ordinance regarding yard sales within the City of Fontana. This ordinance was reviewed and revised in order to provide guidelines to residents regarding conducting yard sales within the city limits as well as enhance the appearance and appeal of our community.

Fontana City Code Chapter 15, Article 1, Section 5-12 now allows Fontana residents to conduct yard sales only on the third weekends of January, April, July and October of each year. The term “weekend” shall mean Friday, Saturday and Sunday and the yard sale shall only be conducted between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Yard sales must be held on property owned or used by the resident and goods may not be displayed on any public right-of-way, such as the sidewalk. A yard sale permit is no longer needed in order to conduct a yard sale on these weekends. Yard sales at any other time are not allowed.

We would also like to remind residents that it is illegal to post signs on any tree, fence post, public utility pole, or on any public right-of-way, or publicly owned property. Signs may only be placed on private property with the owner’s consent.

Officers will be taking action to enforce this ordinance and violators may be issued citations if found to be in violation.

Please contact the Fontana Police Department Code Compliance Unit at (909) 854-8020 for any questions regarding this ordinance.
