UPDATE: Body Discovered Tied to Tree On Harvard-Westlake Grounds, Autopsy Expected Saturday
UPDATE 3:51 P.M.
Around 8:18 a.m., Los Angeles police received a call about a dead body that was discovered on land owned by Harvard-Westlake School in Studio City in the 3700 block of Coldwater Canyon Avenue.
Officer Bruce Borihanh with the Los Angeles Police Department's media relations section confirmed that a dead body was discovered and that a "death investigation" was underway at the school. On the police scanner, an LAPD officer described the body as "tied up."
Student reporters Michael Rothberg and David Lim from The Harvard-Westlake Chronicle online paper, said that Jim Crawford, head of security, found the body when he was clearing out brush about 8 a.m. at the property just across from the school's main entrance.
“According to my experience working homicide, it looked like he had been there a couple of days,” Crawford said.
The body appeared to be a male, Crawford said, and did not appear to be a member of the Harvard-Westlake community, Head of Campus Operations and Construction J.D. De Matte added.
A coroner's report is expected on Saturday to determine how the person died. Police said the body is not likely to be the missing FBI agent from Burbank.
L.A. County coroner’s investigator Mario Sainz said the man was pronounced dead at the scene and it was unclear if it was foul play or suicide involved. The man has not yet been identified.
This story will be updated as soon as more information is available.
Harvard-Westlake is a prestigious private school located on 22 acres. Famous alum such as Jon Lovitz, Jamie Lee Curtis, Jason Reitman, Maggie and Jake Gyllenhaal and Tori Spelling went to the school.
