Patterson, CA – On June 9, 2012 from 9:00 AM to 1:30 PM the Stanislaus County Children and Families Commission, in partnership with the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department and the Patterson Fire Department hosted a “Buckle up for baby” event. The event was to raise awareness about child seat safety by doing check ups of car seats and providing parents with information regarding the new laws pertaining to child seats (children under 8 years old or under 4’9 must be in a restraint seat). Child seats that were found to be unsafe were replaced free of charge.
There were a total of 54 car seat inspections made and 29 replacements. 16 cars had to be turned away due to time constraints and not enough car seats, however, all those turned away were referred to the West Side FRC network for additional opportunities for inspections, car seat safety classes, and possible discounted vouchers for new seat. Each child received a stuffed “Buckle up Bear” toy and a coloring book with a child safety theme.
