Detective Gary Schuette and Officer Marc Smith arrested a 31 year old female in connection with the 2009 Homicide investigation of 9-month old Seth Murphy. The suspect was arrested Tuesday afternoon in the 600 block of Francis Street on a 2-count felony warrant.
On August 27, 2009, the Jackson Police responded to Allegiance Health for a child abuse report. The victim, 9-month old Seth Murphy, was being treated for severe head injuries and was life flighted to U of M Hospital for further treatment. Seth Murphy died as a result of his injuries two days later. Following a 2 ½ year investigation by Detectives Gary Schuette and Ed Smith, an arrest warrant was issued in the case on June 5, 2012 and the suspect was subsequently arrested.
The suspect is charged with:
•Count 1: HOMICIDE – MURDER FIRST DEGREE –PREMEDITATED
•Count 1 (alternative): HOMICIDE – FELONY MURDER
•Count 2: CHILD ABUSE – FIRST DEGREE
The suspect was lodged at the Jackson County Jail. Her name will be released following her arraignment at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 6, 2012, in 12th District Court before Judge Goostrey.
