In the afternoon of May 29, 2012, Century station personnel responded to a carjacking call in the city of Lynwood. The deputies contacted the victim, who stated his Fed Ex delivery truck had been taken from him at gunpoint. The victim quickly ran away from the location as the suspect drove away in the stolen delivery truck. A short time later, the victim relocated the stolen delivery truck near the intersection of Imperial Highway and Carson Drive in the city of Lynwood. The delivery truck appeared to have been involved in a traffic collision. The victim then saw the suspect commit an additional carjacking and drive off in a stolen SUV. Deputies soon located the stolen SUV near the intersection of Abbott Road and Otis Street where it had been involved in a collision. Several bystanders alerted the deputies to the suspect, who was fleeing from the scene. Deputies quickly contained the area, and the suspect was later located in the 10600 block of Otis Street. A loaded handgun, along with additional evidence, was recovered inside the contained area. The suspect was later arrested after he was positively identified by both victims. Footage of the incidents was captured by Advanced Surveillance and Protection Plan (ASAP) surveillance cameras. The crime of carjacking is extremely violent and often goes unsolved. In this case, the positive efforts of Century station personnel led to the capture of a violent criminal.
