Sheriff's Homicide Bureau detectives responded to the Covina Police Department, 444 North Citrus Avenue, Covina, to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of a male Hispanic adult.
Loss prevention officers detained a man after he stole merchandise from a retail store in the 1200 block of North Azusa Avenue, Covina. While being detained in the parking lot, the suspect began fighting the loss prevention personnel. Covina Police Department personnel were called and responded. When the officers arrived, the suspect was being restrained by loss prevention officers. The Covina police officers saw the suspect appeared to be in medical distress and called for paramedics to respond. He was then transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The cause of death will be determined by Los Angeles County Coroner's Office personnel.
