SBSO Releases Surveillance Images from I.V. Armed Robbery; Seek Public's Help to ID Suspect.
May 24, 2012
Santa Barbara—Sheriff’s detectives are releasing surveillance images of an armed robbery at an ATM in Isla Vista in the hope that the public may help solve the crime.
At approximately 6:35pm on Saturday, May 19, 2012, a 22-year old female was using an automated teller machine in the 900 block of Embarcadero Del Norte when a male subject walked up from behind, held an object to her hip, and ordered the victim to give him all her money.
The victim originally believed the man was joking until the man showed her the knife and told her again to give him her cash. She complied and the suspect walked northbound on Madrid Road toward UCSB. The entire encounter lasted approximately two minutes in broad daylight near dozens of people on the surrounding street. The victim was not injured.
The ensuing investigation has not led to an arrest. So Sheriff’s detectives are releasing surveillance images and asking the public for any help identifying the suspect. He is described as a white male, 20 to 22-years old, approximately 6-foot tall, average build, with medium length curly hair, wearing a black baseball hat, grey and white horizontal striped long-sleeve pullover, and shorts.
Anyone with information regarding this crime is urged to contact Sheriff’s detectives at (805)-681-4150 or the Sheriff’s Anonymous Tip Line at (805) 681-4171.
