Sheriff's Homicide Bureau detectives are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding an off duty deputy involved shooting which occurred on Wednesday, May 23, 2012, at approximately 10:55 A.M., in the 1000 block of Stockwell Avenue, Compton.

Detectives have learned that the deputy returned to the residence to find the front door ajar and evidence of a break in. After contacting the Compton Sheriff's Station for deputies to respond, he entered the house with his firearm to secure the location.

Once inside the deputy was confronted by two male Hispanic adult suspects, one of which was armed with a shotgun. A deputy involved shooting occurred, resulting in the wounding of one suspect. The other suspect fled the scene.

The suspect was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The shotgun was recovered.

The deputy was uninjured.

Sheriff's Homicide Detectives are en route to the 1000 block of West Stockwell Street, Compton, to investigate the circumstances surrounding a deputy-involved shooting.

No deputies were injured.

The suspect was transported to a local hospital where his condition is unknown.

Whenever a Officer-Involved Shooting occurs involving Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputies, and it results in the wounding of a suspect, multiple independent investigations immediately begin at the scene. These include separate investigations by the Office of the Los Angeles District Attorney and the Los Angeles County Coroner, in addition to investigations by Sheriff's Homicide Bureau and Internal Affairs Bureau. Attorneys with the Los Angeles Office of Independent Review also respond to the scene, and have full access to the facts known to the Sheriff's Department throughout every phase of these investigations. Once concluded, every aspect of the shooting is reviewed by the Sheriff's Executive Force Review Committee.
