Found Grenade Investigation in Palos Verdes Estates...

On Saturday, May 12, 2012, at 1:37 P.M., Sergeant Danny E. Coon reports deputies from Lomita Station and Parks Bureau (South Zone) responded to a “Found Grenade” call at the South Coast Botanic Gardens, 26300 Crenshaw Boulevard, Palos Verdes Estates.

The grenade was found along the Banyan Grove Trail, adjacent to Crenshaw Boulevard. The location was secured and Arson Explosives Detail was notified and responded. The device was determined to be an Inert Grenade Body (containing no explosives) by Arson Explosives Detail and they took possession of the device for destruction.

The Park entrance was temporarily closed for approximately 80 minutes during the investigation. Traffic outside the Park was unaffected.

Recently there was a movie production at the Botanic Gardens, and the device may have been left by the production company. The incident is still under investigation.

For further information, contact Sergeant Acevedo, Arson Explosives Detail, at (323) 881-7500.
