Carjacking Suspect Exchanges Gunfire with Deputies across from LASD Industry Station

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Homicide Bureau detectives are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding a Deputy-Involved Shooting, which occurred on Saturday, May 12, in the 15000 block of Stafford Street, City of Industry.

Detectives have learned that at approximately 1:30 p.m., Sheriff's deputies responded to an "armed carjacking just occurred call" in La Puente.

Deputies were told the suspect left the location in a white Dodge Charger. A crime broadcast with the suspect and vehicle descriptions was broadcasted over the Sheriff's radio to assisting deputies.

Shortly after, assisting Industry Sheriff's Station deputies saw the stolen vehicle and initiated a traffic stop.

The suspect refused to yield and a short pursuit ensued, ending in the 15000 block of Stafford Street, across the street from the Industry Sheriff's Station.

The suspect exited the vehicle and at one point fired from a semi-automatic weapon at the deputies. A deputy involved shooting occurred.

The suspect was hit by gunfire and pronounced dead at the scene.

Although a patrol car was hit, no deputies were hit by gunfire.

A semi-automatic weapon was recovered.

Whenever a Deputy-Involved Shooting occurs involving Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputies, and it results in a fatality, multiple independent investigations immediately begin at the scene. These include separate investigations by the Office of the Los Angeles District Attorney and the Los Angeles County Coroner, in addition to investigations by Sheriff's Homicide Bureau and Internal Affairs Bureau. Attorneys with the Los Angeles Office of Independent Review also respond to the scene, and have full access to the facts known to the Sheriff's Department throughout every phase of these investigations. Once concluded, every aspect of the shooting is reviewed by the Sheriff's Executive Force Review Committee.

Sheriff's Homicide Detectives are en route to the 15000 block of East Stafford Street, Industry, to investigate the circumstances surrounding a deputy-involved shooting which occurred at 1:52 PM.

No deputies were injured. One suspect was wounded.
