Carjacking Suspect Exchanges Gunfire with Deputies across from LASD Industry Station

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Homicide Bureau detectives are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding a Deputy-Involved Shooting, which occurred on Saturday, May 12, in the 15000 block of Stafford Street, City of Industry.

Detectives have learned that at approximately 1:30 p.m., Sheriff's deputies responded to an "armed carjacking just occurred call" in La Puente.

Deputies were told the suspect left the location in a white Dodge Charger. A crime broadcast with the suspect and vehicle descriptions was broadcasted over the Sheriff's radio to assisting deputies.

Shortly after, assisting Industry Sheriff's Station deputies saw the stolen vehicle and initiated a traffic stop.

The suspect refused to yield and a short pursuit ensued, ending in the 15000 block of Stafford Street, across the street from the Industry Sheriff's Station.

The suspect exited the vehicle and at one point fired from a semi-automatic weapon at the deputies. A deputy involved shooting occurred.

The suspect was hit by gunfire and pronounced dead at the scene.

Although a patrol car was hit, no deputies were hit by gunfire.

A semi-automatic weapon was recovered.
