WHAT: Arrest for Residential Burglary and Prowling

WHERE: 11321 Los Osos Valley Rd

SUSPECT: 23 year old ZACHERY D. LELAND of San Luis Obispo

On May 9, 2012 at around 3:00 AM, SLOPD officers responded to a residence on Cortez Ct to a report of a prowler. The resident was awakened by the sound of footsteps in her back yard. Moments later, officers located and detained Zachery D. Leland.

Leland was wearing a backpack containing a stolen computer and textbook. Leland admitted to having just committed two residential burglaries just before being detained for prowling on Cortez Ct. Leland directed officers to the two apartments he had burglarized located at 11321 Los Osos Valley Rd. Both apartments he had entered were unlocked and the residents were home when he went in. In both cases, the residents were asleep and had no idea Leland was inside. The stolen property was returned to their rightful owners.

Leland was booked into custody at SLO County Jail on two counts of 1st degree Burglary of an occupied dwelling, one count of Prowling, and a warrant for possession of stolen property. Leland’s bail was set at $50, 000.
