Modesto, CA – **Update** Homicide detectives arrested 44 y/o Tom Franks of Modesto for attempted homicide this morning. Franks was the person of interest detained last night and has been booked at the county jail.

The victim’s identity is being withheld, but she is 48 years old and from Modesto. When deputies arrived to the residence last night they found the victim lying near the roadway with a gunshot wound. After the victim was transported by emergency personnel to the hospital deputies searched a residence in the 1600 Block of Vernon Ave. During their search Franks was found inside and detained.

Homicide detectives are not releasing the motive or the extent of the victim’s injuries as they continue to investigate what led up to the victim being shot. They do believe there was an argument between a male and a female prior to residents calling 911 regarding the sounds of gunshots being fired. They need the neighbors in the 1600 Block of Vernon Ave to provide information that will assist in the investigation.


**Update** Sheriff’s Deputies have detained a male subject found near the crime scene. The male has not been identified and is a person of interest at this point in the investigation. The status of the victim was not available as of this press release. Detectives have taken over the investigation.

Sheriff’s Deputies responded to several 911 calls at 9:41 PM in the 1600 Block of Vernon Ave in Modesto, CA for several gunshots heard by residents. When deputies arrived they found an adult female victim suffering from gunshot wounds. Emergency personnel transported the female to a local hospital and her status is not known at this time.
