Door-to-Door Candles Sales Investigated by Fruitport Township Police Department

Fruitport Township Police Department is investigating whether teens who were going door-to-door selling candles in the area intentionally kept the money without delivering the products.

The investigation started when a resident reported to police she had ordered candles in October, 2011. She paid with a check. The check had been cashed, but she never received the candles she ordered.

The sales were allegedly being conducted to raise money for a school trip to Washington D.C. through Fruitport Schools. Police are investigating whether Fruitport Schools hosted a school trip to Washington D.C., whether the fundraiser was sanctioned by the school, and why customers did not receive the merchandise for which they had paid.

If you purchased candles from door-to-door sales in the Fruitport area and did not receive the merchandise you ordered and paid for, please contact Officer Dan Babinec Fruitport Township Police Department at (231) 865-8477, Ext. 504.
