Welcome to Spring !!
Welcome to spring everyone!! This time of year people are spending more time outside cleaning up around the house. For those of you that live in Westfall Township this may include burning of old brush. Please be careful when burning as the chances of a forest fire are very high this time of year. The dryness of the brush combined with high winds make for a very dangerous combination. Make sure you keep your controlled burn, under control, and never leave the area where the burning is done unless you are 100% sure the fire has been extinguished. Also remember to call the Pike County Communications Center at 570-296-7700 when starting your controlled burn and when finishing.
This month the Westfall Fire Department will be hosting a Blackened Cajun Chicken Dinner to benefit the Fire Department. The date of this event is April 13th from 4PM to 7PM takeout only. Price of a ticket is $10.00. This includes Blackened Chicken, red beans and rice, Texas toast, salad, and a desert. The guest chef for this event will be Richard Codichini formally of Gino’s Tavern and Restaurant in Port Jervis, NY. For tickets see any Member of the FD or call 570-491-4717. Limited number of tickets are being sold so don’t wait.
As most of you can see our new building is coming along. I would like to clear up a few rumors that I have head circulating in the area. First off I need to reiterate that this addition is NOT being paid for with tax money. This building is being funded strictly with money from donations that we have been collecting for nearly 20 years. Secondly, once the new building is completed the old truck bays will not be used to house our apparatus any longer. The old building will be used for much needed storage and offices that will be set up at a later date in time. I have also heard people inquire about why the new building is as tall as it is. We needed the height for a couple of reasons. The old building was to low, and when new trucks were bought we had to have them special ordered to fit into the old building due to the height restraint. That will no longer be an issue. Also with the added height we will be able to work on the trucks inside the building. This will make things much easier come the cold winter months. Once the building is compete we will have an open house for everyone to come take a look.
Finally I want to congratulate Richard Thomas, Billie-Jean Mcloughlin, and Brian Vincent who successfully passed the Pennsylvania State Emergency Medical Technician exam, and are now certified E.M.T.s for our ambulance. This class isn’t easy and it takes almost 6 months to compete. Thank you girls and guys for your dedication in helping us help the people of our community.
If anyone in the community would like to join our department we are always hiring. The pay isn’t great but saving a life is it’s own reward. We need more EMTs, drivers, firefighters, and people to help with clerical and fundraising. For more information you can Email me at EMS@westfallfire.com, or call the station at 570-491-4717. As always thank you for your support.
