On Thursday, 01 March 2012 Detectives from the Special Investigation Bureau of the Perth Amboy Police Department assisted State Investigators from the Attorney Generals Office, Division of Community Affairs, which were conducting inspections of Barber Shops and Hair Salons within the City of Perth Amboy. While conducting an inspection at D.K. Che Barber Shop which is located at 289-B Smith Street, Investigators came across an illegal gambling operation in the rear room of that establishment. It was also determined that none of the Barbers within the establishment were licensed Barbers.
Arrested were Antonio DeJesus Nunez, age 42, of 307 Market Street, Perth Amboy who was charged with Promoting Gambling and Possession of Gambling records, Pedro Pablo Malena Garcia, age 64, of 305 153rd Street, Bronx, NY who was charged with Promoting Gambling, Possession of Gambling Records and Possession of Gambling Devices, and Jacinto Betances-Vargas, age 38, of 185 Market Street, Perth Amboy who was charged with Possession of Gambling records. Over $5,000 in cash was confiscated, along with a laptop computer, a ticket receipt printer, a shredder and several gambling ledgers. Bail was set by the Honorable Judge Emery Toth.
