On February 28, 2012, at approximately 12:28 p.m., Wisconsin Rapids Police were notified of a man that was taking pictures of the kids on the playground at Mead Elementary School, in the city of Wisconsin Rapids.

The man was described as;
• wearing dark blue jacket with the hood pulled up
• having a longer, scruffy whitish beard
• carrying a dark colored satchel

The man was last seen leaving the area on foot down 17th Avenue and eventually westbound on Hale Street. The subject was never in close proximity to the children. Officers did check the area but were unable to locate anyone.


Coincidentally, that same afternoon, two Howe Elementary School students told school officials that a male subject tried waving the two students to his vehicle in the area of Saratoga Street and 7th Street as they walked to school at approximately 7:55 a. m.

That man was described as;
• white male in his late 20’s
• wearing a brown coat and black hat
• having a scruffy beard
• driving a black compact car

Police do not think the incidents are related. The Wisconsin Rapids Police Department and Wisconsin Rapids School District are asking for anyone with information to call Wisconsin Rapids Police, 715-423-4444, or the Wood County Crime Stoppers, 877-325-7867.

Also The Community Computer Classes sponsored by Wisconsin Rapids Public Schools are cancelled this evening, Wed, Feb 29th due to the weather.
