Increase in reports of daytime burglaries

The Fontana Police Department Investigations Unit has identified an increase in the number of residential burglaries. The burglaries occur most often during daytime hours, when homes are unoccupied. Thieves target items which can be easily carried and sold. Jewelry is commonly stolen and quickly sold at various “Cash for Gold” location throughout the area.

In an effort to reduce the risk to residents, the following recommendations are provided:
• Hide valuables
• Consider purchasing a safe which can be bolted down
• Ask neighbors to watch your home when out of town
• Immediately report suspicious individuals in your neighborhood
• Form neighborhood watch programs
• Attend Area Commander Meetings
• Anonymously report any information you have regarding individuals responsible for burglaries to the Fontana Police Department Tips Line (909)350-TIPS
