Stolen GPS devices relating to larcenies from vehicles in Fruitport Township have been recovered.
Spring Lake / Ferrysburg Police Department recently recovered multiple GPS navigational devices during a traffic stop that have been linked to larcenies from vehicles in the Fruitport Township area. The traffic stop was made in area of Third Street and US-31 in Spring Lake on January 31, 2012.
A rash of larcenies from vehicles took place in July, 2011, in the following neighborhoods: 6400 block of Cottonwood Drive, 3000 block of Pleasantwood Drive, 2400 block of Alder Drive, 3900 and 4000 blocks of Meadow Lane, 6800 block of Beeechcreek Drive, 3100 block of Pinewood Lane, 2800 and 2900 blocks of Brookmere Street, 2300 block of Cress Creek Drive, and the following blocks on Stringer Road: 5400, 5900, 6000, and 6100.
Items stolen in these incidents included GPS navigational devices, cash, sunglasses, radar detectors, and other miscellaneous electronics and valuables. Unlocked vehicles were specifically targeted.
GPS devices recovered by Spring Lake / Ferrysburg Police Department have been linked to victims in some of the above larcenies.
No further information is being released at this time while the matter is being actively investigated by Spring Lake / Ferrysburg and Fruitport Township Police Departments.
Fruitport Township Police Department reminds members of the community to report any observed suspicious activity / suspicious persons.
Additionally, the following suggestions for prevention are provided:
* Close windows and lock your vehicle anytime you leave it unattended.
* Place valuables you must leave in your car out of sight - preferably in your trunk.
* Secure your vehicle inside a locked garage, if possible. If not, try to park in areas with high visibility. Avoid dark, secluded areas.
* Auto burglar alarms are available. Advertise the fact that you have one if you do. (i.e.: window decals)
* Record brand, model number, and serial number for valuables such as stereos, MP3 players, GPS devices, and cellular phones. Consider engraving these items to make the even more identifiable. Ideally they should be removed from the vehicle or out of sight when parked.
