INCIDENT: Fire Fighter Impersonators
DATE: February 3, 2012, 11:45am
LOCATION: East Gate Shopping Center on Roswell Road
SUSPECT: Two white males, 55-60 years old, wearing plain clothes and a gold badge
Members of the Marietta Police and Fire Departments are currently investigating a report of a two individuals who reportedly impersonated fire department personnel in an attempt to solicit money for a non-existent, fire department charity.
The incident at occurred at 11:45am in the East Gate Shopping Center located at the intersection of Lower Roswell Road and the South Marietta Parkway. Business owners stated that two white males dressed in civilian clothes entered the business and were soliciting donations for a charity that benefits firemen and their families. The employees stated that one of the suspects was wearing a gold fire department badge around his neck and claimed to know many of the fire chiefs in the area. The suspects were described as white males, 55-60 years of age, 5’10”-6’0 tall, and heavy set. The suspect wearing the badge was described as wearing a leather jacket, glasses and a baseball cap. Both suspects left the location in a burgundy Honda Accord with a possible Georgia license plate number of BJN734.
The Marietta Fire Department would like to inform all citizens that fire department personnel will never solicit door to door for charitable donations nor do they charge for fire inspections. Additionally, all members of the Marietta Fire Department, when conducting official department business, will operate fire department vehicles and be dressed in full uniform with proper credentials displayed.
