****************** FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE*******************

INCIDENT: Residential Burglaries
DATE: December 30, 2011
LOCATION: Multiple Residences of Marietta Zone 2
SUSPECT: Moises Sanchez, Jr. (black male, 06/22/1983)
CHARGES: Burglary (x1) (more charges pending)

Over the course of the previous week, Marietta experienced a spike in residential burglaries, all of which were concentrated in and around a neighborhood in Marietta’s Zone 2. As the burglaries were timed with the holiday season’s busiest week for both travel and gift-giving, Marietta Police detectives -together with officers of the Marietta Police Uniform Patrol Division- set out to undertake an operation to identify, locate and arrest the offender(s) of these crimes as part of MPD’s 2011 Holiday Crime Suppression Plan. On the morning of Friday, December 30, 2011, undercover surveillance teams of MPD detectives, in conjunction with uniformed MPD patrol officers, began a concentrated operation in the area affected by the string of burglaries.

Using a combination of fingerprint evidence, field contacts and surveillance, MPD personnel identified Moises Sanchez, Junior (black male, 06/22/1983), as the prime suspect in at least one of the burglaries on which the operation was focused. Investigation by MPD detectives lead them to locate Sanchez in a room at a hotel within walking distance of the area where the recent series of burglaries had taken place; Sanchez was taken into custody at the hotel without incident. A subsequent interview of Sanchez and search of his hotel room lead to the recovery of numerous items stolen in the recent burglaries including electronics, jewelry, rare coins, luggage, clothing and a bicycle. At the time of his arrest, Sanchez was on active parole for burglary.

Sanchez has been charged with one count of burglary, but further charges are pending and expected as more recovered property is identified and connected to its lawful owners. Sanchez is currently being held without bail at the Cobb County jail.
