DUI Arrests Still on the Rise Entering the Holiday Weekend

The Winter Holiday Anti-DUI crackdown has resulted in a significant number of DUI arrests from local routine traffic enforcement and special Avoid the 100 DUI deployments in Los Angeles County.

From 12:01 AM Friday December 16, 2011 through Midnight Thursday December 29, 2011 officers representing 100 county law enforcement agencies have arrested 1,849 individuals for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. In 2010, 1,720 DUI arrests occurred during the same fourteen-day time period.

For New Year’s Eve and final weekend of the campaign, checkpoints will be conducted at undisclosed locations throughout the County. DUI Patrols will be searching all other areas of the county with the hopes of removing drunk drivers from the road before they kill or injure innocent family members and. The CHP will be deploying all available officers for their Maximum Enforcement Period during the New Year’s holiday weekend beginning tonight at 6:00 PM until Midnight Monday. All regularly scheduled traffic and patrol officers will focus efforts on DUI drivers. The activity is all part of this region-wide effort during the 17-day Winter Holiday Campaign.

Police, Sheriff and CHP encourage all motorists to help make the holidays safer: Report Drunk Drivers – Call 911. DUI arrest data collection will continue through New Year’s Weekend, midnight Sunday, January 1, 2012. Funding for this program is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety http://www.ots.ca.gov/ , through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration http://www.nhtsa.gov/
