Dallas Police Northwest Division Detective secures Burglary conviction using citizens home security camera.

A recent burglary arrest in the Northern portion of the Northwest Division was filed with the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office that was based upon a home security camera that was used to identify the suspect. The District Attorney’s Office is reluctant to use a security camera as the only source of identity because of immage quality. Just recently the District Attorney rejected a Burglary case that was filed by a Northwest Division Detective because the identity of the suspect was based upon a home security camera. The Northwest Detective assigned to the case returned the case to the DA and “plead his case” for the DA to accept the camera image. As a result of the detective’s efforts, the DA accepted the image and the defendant subsequently plead guilty.

We strongly encourage homeowners to look into securing their homes and businesses with quality security cameras. It’s discouraging to all of us when we know who the offender is, but because of prosecution identity issues a case can not be filed, and the bad guy goes free. A good quality camera system can be used, as in this burglary.

Thank you everyone for your help. We can not do this on our own.
