The victim in the crash, identified as Joanne Legg, 74 years old from Commerce, succumbed to her injuries and passed away at approximately 6:00am on December 10, 2011. The investigation is still active and charges are pending against the driver of the GMC Sierra who is identified as 23 year old William Webb from Powder Springs.

INCIDENT: Serious Injury Crash

SUSPECT: 23 year old male from Powder Springs
CHARGES: Pending

The Marietta Police Department Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) Unit is investigating a serious injury crash that occurred at approximately 4:33pm on December 9, 2011 at 677 Church Street. The initial investigation reveals that a GMC Sierra pickup, driven by a 23 year old male of Powder Springs, was exiting the toll plaza at the parking deck when it entered into oncoming traffic and struck a Ford Freestyle passenger car that was parked along the curb. The victim, a 74 year old female from Commerce, GA, was standing next to the parked Ford Freestyle when it was struck. The impact of the crash forced the Ford Freestyle to strike the victim. The victim was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The name of the victim is being withheld at this time pending notification of the family. Charges are pending against the driver of the GMC Sierra pickup. Anyone with information is asked to call Officer Rutland at 770-794-5364.
