LAUNDRY ROOM BURGLAR ARRESTED BY SOUTH PASADENA POLICE
SOUTH PASADENA, CA – Since the beginning of November 2011, apartment buildings within the City of South Pasadena have had nine burglaries to laundry rooms where the suspect(s) have pried into the coin operated laundry machine and stole the coinage from within. In addition to the theft of coins, the break-ins caused thousands of dollars of damage to the washers and dryers. The Suspect(s) have been described as black males in dark clothing between the ages of sixteen years to early twenties on bicycles.
A latent fingerprint from one of the burglaries that occurred in the six hundred block of Prospect Avenue was processed and found to be the fingerprint of a person by the name of Andrew Carrington. This fingerprint was compared to fingerprints from previous arrests of this individual and found to be the same. Coincidently, the Northeast Division of the Los Angeles Police Department was currently searching for Carrington for burglaries in their area and had a warrant issued for his arrest.
The South Pasadena Police Department has assigned officers to specifically look for the Suspect(s) responsible for these burglaries as well as to educate residents on how to prevent and report criminal activity.
On Friday, December 09, 2011, at approximately 700 a.m. an alert resident in the 300 block of Pasadena Avenue called the South Pasadena Police Department to report a burglary that had just occurred at her apartment building’s laundry room. This burglary is identical to the previous burglaries reported. Officers immediately converged on the area and located the Suspect reported by the resident. The Suspect, Andrew Carrington, a transient from Los Angeles, was found to be in possession of multiple burglary tools consistent with those to commit this burglary, as well as the previous ones.
Carrington has prior arrests for burglary, grand theft, vandalism, possession of burglary tools, and petty theft. Carrington was sentenced to three years probation with no jail time on December 5, 2011 for a similar burglary arrest by LAPD. Carrington continued to commit similar crimes while out of jail awaiting sentencing.
Currently, the South Pasadena Police Department’s Detective Bureau is following two additional leads that may implicate Carrington to two additional burglaries within the city. Persons with additional information are asked to contact South Pasadena Detectives at 626-403-7280.
