Date Issued: November 23, 2011

Holiday fun will arrive on Santa’s sleigh as he makes his way down Cass Avenue with the Frosty and Friends Parade. Joined by stilt walkers, flying carpets, live music, real reindeer and even the Grinch, the Westmont Holly Days Frosty and Friends Parade is exciting for all to see. All activities are free to the public.

Everyone is invited to come out and celebrate the holiday season on Friday, Nov. 25, the day after Thanksgiving, in Downtown Westmont. Starting at 5 p.m., there will be roasted chestnuts, hot chocolate, and 90th Anniversary Cake to celebrate Westmont’s incorporation with the State of Illinois. Children will be excited to meet real reindeer from the North Pole while they listen to holiday carols performed by the Westmont High School Madrigal Choir.

The highlight of the evening is the Frosty & Friends Parade and Tree Lighting Countdown Ceremony. Starting at 6:45 p.m., the parade will head south on Cass Avenue from Naperville Road to Richmond Street. After the parade, our grand marshal Frosty the Snowman will meet up with Santa and Mrs. Claus to invite the entire community to help with the Holly Days Tree Lighting countdown. After the Tree Lighting, come to Westmont Centre at One South Cass Avenue to share your holiday wishes and get a picture taken with Santa for free.

Residents are encouraged to bring canned good to the parade. The People’s Resource Center will be part of the parade procession and pick up donations along the parade route. All donations will be given to local families in need. Donations can also be dropped off to the Westmont Special Events office at Westmont Centre, One South Cass Avenue.

And that’s not all! Guests are invited to visit Veterans Memorial Park and the Gregg House Museum, 55 E. Richmond Street, to see the Holly Days tree walk and displays. Bring the entire family and share in the holiday merriment, here in Westmont.

Unfortunately, the Holly Days 5K has been cancelled for various reasons. If you pre-registered, please contact the Park District at 630-963-5252.

The Holly Days Winter Festival is sure to please children of all ages. The parade and opening ceremony are exclusively sponsored by the Holly Days events continue through the end of December and include breakfast or lunch with Santa, Christmas performances, Santa’s workshop on Saturday evenings, caroling, wagon rides and more.
