Detectives from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Homicide Bureau are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the State of California Department of Parks and Recreation's Officer-Involved Shooting which occurred Monday, November 21, in the 46000 block of Orwin Way, Gorman (northern Los Angeles County)
Detectives have learned that two Park Rangers from the State of California Department of Parks and Recreation were conducting a stolen vehicle investigation where they detained a 21-year-old female, and a 25-year-old male.
The female suspect was handcuffed and placed inside the Park Ranger's Patrol SUV. The male suspect was also handcuffed and detained, but he managed to move his handcuffs from a rear position to a front position, and jump into the driver's seat of the Park Ranger's Patrol SUV.
The male suspect drove away with the female suspect in the back seat, and a Park Ranger clinging to the side of the Patrol SUV. After a short distance, the Park Ranger fell off the SUV and onto the ground. The male suspect negotiated a u-turn and drove toward the Park Ranger. The Park Ranger, fearing for his life, fired several rounds at the male suspect. The male suspect still managed to drive away, and a pursuit was initiated.
After a period of time, the pursuit terminated at the eastbound 210 freeway and Polk Street, Sylmar. The male and female suspects were taken into custody by California Highway Patrol officers.
The female suspect was transported to a local hospital where she was treated for minor injuries, and later transported to Santa Clarita Valley Station for booking. The male suspect was transported to a local hospital where he is being treated for a gun shot wound to his upper torso. His condition is unknown at this time.
