The Joliet Police Department is investigating a case of a residential burglary that occurred over the weekend in the Timber Estates subdivision. Similar cases have occurred in both Shorewood and Will County jurisdictions.

Crime prevention tips for area residents will be discussed at a neighborhood meeting scheduled for Tuesday, November 22, 2011. The meeting will be held at the Joliet Park District (please stop at the lower fitness desk for information about the exact meeting room) beginning at 6:30 p.m. All area residents are encouraged to attend this meeting.

The Joliet Police Department needs the community’s help in catching the offender(s). Anyone with information regarding this case is encouraged to call the Joliet Police Department’s Investigation Division at 815-724-3056 (Detective Chris Schott) or Officer Mike Reilly at 815-955-9650.

If you wish to remain anonymous, please call Crime Stoppers of Will County at 1-800-323-6734. Crime Stoppers provides rewards up to $5,000 for tips leading to an arrest.

The community is encouraged to employ the following crime prevention measures:

 Keep your doors and windows locked at all times. If you hear a knock, go to the door but verify the identity of the person through a peephole or window before opening the door.

 Be aware of your surroundings when entering your residence.

 Program 9-1-1 in your cell and house phones for speed dial.

 Keep the phone handy. If you have a cordless phone, take it with you when there is a knock at the door.

Anyone who sees a crime in progress or suspicious activity should immediately report this information by dialing 9-1-1.
