Advisory

EAS TEST TODAY AT 2:00PM EST. NO ACTION NEEDED. PLEASE DO NOT CALL 9-1-1 TO CONFIRM RECEIPT. IT IS ONLY A TEST

Reminder: Emergency Alert System Test Today 2:00 PM

Today, at 2:00 p.m. eastern standard time, the federal government will conduct the first nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS). The test is expected to last approximately thirty seconds. During this period, regularly scheduled television, radio, cable, and satellite shows will be interrupted as the system is being tested. This event will be just a test, and not a real emergency alert.

This is the first time the EAS will be tested across the entire country. A public information campaign has preceded this test. However, it is possible that the event will generate calls to emergency response organizations.
