Palmdale Deputy Honored by Victim and Department Members for Life Saving Actions.

Palmdale Sheriff Station held a Press Conference Thursday afternoon, honoring Deputy Diane C. Valadez for her life saving actions on December 13, 2010. Palmdale Station Captain Bobby D Denham presented Deputy Valadez with the department’s Life Saving Award, along with other government officials from the Antelope Valley area.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff Department’s Life Saving award is presented to employees or Reserve members of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department whose actions result in the saving or preservation of a human life that otherwise would have expired without the employee's direct involvement.

On December 13, 2010, Deputy Diane Valadez, assigned to Palmdale Station, responded to a 911 call involving an unconscious man. Upon her arrival, Deputy Valadez ran into the residence and found a man, Anthony Jimenez, who was unresponsive. She quickly assessed the situation and began cardiopulmonary resuscitation. She continued CPR for over 5 minutes, until the arrival of paramedics. Deputy Valadez’ decisive actions and efficient performance not only saved the man’s life, but prevented potentially serious coronary or brain damage.

After receiving the awards from Captain Denham, Mr. Jimenez thanked Deputy Valadez, and presented her with a gift for saving his life that December day. With a heartfelt thank you from both Jimenez and his girlfriend Renae Swanson, they presented her with a t-shirt that affectionately stated “You are loved more than you will ever know, by someone who died to meet you.”
